What you should do after being bitten by a dog:
1. Seek immediate medical attention for any injuries.
2. Obtain the name, address, and phone number of the owner of the dog and witnesses to the attack.
3. Report the dog attack to law enforcement and animal control officers.
4. Take pictures of the injuries.
North Carolina the laws governing dog bite cases.
1. Every dog that bites a person must be quarantined for a period of 10 days.
2. North Carolina defines a dangerous dog as a dog that without provocation has killed or inflicted severe injury on a person.
3. The owner of a dog is chargeable under the law in North Carolina with knowledge of the general propensities of certain animals, and he must exercise due care to prevent injury from reasonably anticipated conduct.
4. The owner of a dangerous dog that attacks a person and causes physical injuries requiring medical treatment in excess of one hundred dollars ($100.00) shall be guilty of a Class 1 misdemeanor. (N.C.G.S. § 67-4.3).
5. The owner of a dangerous dog shall be strictly liable in civil damages for any injuries or property damage the dog inflicts upon a person, his property, or another animal (N.C.G.S. § 67-4.4).
